Wizernes to Wissant

Travelled: 62km
Stay: Wissant- Aire free parking and services n50°53.210' E1°40.224' / 50.88749, 1.67223

After a quiet night we went to visit the Coupole V2 Museum. This was a secret underground base built by the German army during WW2 which was to launch V2 rockets on London. It was only 2 weeks from completion when the allies captured it. It was a very extensive museum and we took 4 hours to visit. We found out about the German occupation of France during the war and about the resistance movement and the concentration camps.

Then we were informed on the 'secret weapons' and how the man, Braun, who designed the V2 rocket, later worked for the US and NASA and designed the spaceship to go to the moon.

After a bit of shopping we headed to the coast and found a spot in a very busy Aire in Wissant, 20 mins south of Calais. We had our dinner of 2kg of Moulles (muscels) which we bought for 1.75eu (beats spending 22eu each at the restaurant!) They were on special at half price! What a bargain. We then had a stroll through the village and to the beach. Truly a beautiful evening.
