Stay: Étretat- designated car park for Motorhomes near the SNCF 49.70853, 0.21484
Woke up to a sunny and fresh morning and so we continued our journey along the coastal road.
Our first stop was to have breakfast and to admire the view from the lookout of Pourville (a nice free overnighter if you don't mind a bit of fall). We ended up helping a Czech bloke to get his van out the carpark so he could jump start the battery! Then down the hill we went to the lovely little town where it was also possible to park overnight. Bought our daily baguette from the boulangerie. (We have learnt to do this at the first opportunity, as we have been caught out a few times not being able to buy bread! I know...unbelievable). Anyway as lovely as it would have been to stay here, if we continue on at this rate it would take us 6 months and we only have less than 7 weeks left.
Next stop was St.Aubin sur Mer, which is more of a fishing village than holiday resort. There is a big parking area with an Aire that costs only 5eu. We had a cup of tea and wandered on to the sea wall where fishermen were selling their catch for the morning.
On we went to St Valery en Caux and went to look at the Aire. The road in is along the port wall and is only one Motorhome wide. Unfortunately our effort was in vain as it was full. The port town was very picturesque would have been worth a visit.
We were lucky to have stumbled on the charming little village of les Petites Dalles. The houses here were very decorative and used a combination of flint rock and brickwork along with some great timber work and the roofs are amazing.
After a stroll and some lunch we headed for Fécamp. It was very busy as it was Sunday and a market day. The Aire and carparks were full and so we decided to continue on driving through Yport but the Aire here is now closed. So we ended up in Étretat. On the road into town we noticed motorhomes parked near the SNCF and as there was one spot available we took it. (We have also learnt this lesson of spotting the big white boxes and taking a spot when you can.)
We have fond memories of this town from our last visit 10 years ago. We went for a stroll into the village which as it turns out very touristy and full of restaurants and gift shops. The main attraction here are the cliff top walks which offer fantastic views. This will be tomorrow's adventure.
Only seven weeks left :-( But you are certainly packing a lot into every day ;-)
ReplyDeleteWish we were there, you're giving us some good ideas for great places to visit. The photos, as always are fantastic.
Ciao. Anita and Gary.
