Morlaix Bay France

Travelled: 55km
stay: St Pol de Léon- Aire €5 N48°40.976' W3°58.249 / 48.68294, -3.97104

Went to visit the Cain of Barnenez, which is the largest mausoleum in Europe and was built in 4500BC. It is 75m long and 28m wide, featuring eleven burial chambers. Amazing to think it was built so long ago.

We then stopped to walk around the town of Morlaix, which has a viaduct that is 62m high and was constructed in 1864 for the railway to Paris. It's port became important due to the cloth trade and there are still some timber buildings from this era.

Later we strolled out to the lookouts in Carantec to view the Island Chateau de Taureau, modified by Vauban In the 18th century and has had many uses including a prison.

From here we made our way to St.Pol de Léon and settled into the Aire on the water front (well it will be when the tide comes in!).
The town boasts a 80m steeple and a stunning 13th and 16th century basilica. It is also situated in Europe's largest vegetable producing region (primarily artichokes and cauliflower).
A very happy day as we have sun!
