Aiguille du Midi Mount Blanc Chamonix France

Stay: Chamonix car park

After just cruising around yesterday, we woke to clear blue skies. So we set off to the Aiguille du Midi buying our day multipass tickets at 6:30am  (it is only 4eu more than a standard ticket) and on the next cable car to arrive at the top just after 7. If you leave before 9am you do not have to reserve a time. It was worth the early start. The views were fantastic!

We took our time to soak it all in and then decided to do the extra 1hour panoramic cable car trip over the glacier to Italy.

There were lots of hikers all over the mountain and some that were ascending Mont Blanc. After 3 hours we decided to descend and take the cog train to Montenvers, where we were able to enter a man made ice grotto in the Mers de Glace Glacier after walking down 400 steps. There was also a small museum about glaciers and one on the history of the area.

We then descended back to Chamonix and went up another cable at on the opposite side of Mont Blanc. This gave us a different aspect to the mountains and valleys. It was a great way to finish the day.
