Thunder and heavy rain fell most of the night but at least it had stopped by morning but the cloud cover was still very low. So we decided that it was not worth to go up to the Pic du Midi. Our first stop was Arreau, a pretty town that had unfortunately suffered some flooding the night before.
We enjoyed a walk around town in the sun before setting off to follow the Tour de France route to Luchon via the Col de Peyresourde (Peyragudes), which was in the clouds with very low visibility. Along the the way there were many bike riders trying out the Tour route.
We drove through Luchon, which is well known for its thermal baths, but were astounded by the flood damage it had suffered with thick black silt nearly everywhere. So on we went along the Valley de Luchon, where the river was still raging and still had signs of flooding.
We had to detour around St.Béat but rejoined the Tour route at the Col de Portet d'Aspe. We passed lots of villages imagining the Tour riders zipping through the streets.

We then went through the Valley de Bethmale and over the Col de la Core, which was again in heavy fog, to the village Seix. We had a pleasant walk around but once again the drizzle set in.
