Dordogne Valley, Carennac & Bretenoux

Travelled: 163 km
Stay: free Aire in Bort les Orgues  45.39848, 2.49694

Another beautiful day. This morning we admired the buildings in the small village of Carennac. We then visited the chateau de Castelnau near Bretenoux built from red limestone in the 13th century. It was saved from ruin in the late 1800s by an opera singer who restored part of the castle. For the rest of the day we drove through pretty country side and villages along the Dordogne River and ended up in an aire in Bort les Orgues. It a fairly in-descriptive town with a mixture of architecture, but it does boast the largest of the Dordogne dams.

On the table is a wine bottle carrier.

Stain glass windows mixing pieces obtained from broken church windows

Very unique 13th century statue of Mary due to it having Romanesque style with an enlarged head but pleats in her dress.
