Puy de Sancy to Montpeyroux France

Travelled: 106km
Stay: free Aire Montpeyroux  45.62482, 3.20111

Had a beautiful day. Travelled through lovely countryside and stopped in Mont Dore and had a walk around. Unfortunately we could not visit the Thermes (baths) this morning, but it certainly is popular with the locals.

We then drove to the foot of the Puy de Sancy and took the cable car up to 1780m alt. we then had to walk up 860 steps (some still covered in snow) to the summit of 1886m alt. We were rewarded with magnificent 360 views. Fantastic.

After our decent we stopped to have a look at the cathedral in  St.Nectaire, also famous for its cheese!

Our last stop for today was Montpeyroux, classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France. We have been to a few now. There is a book listing them all! We enjoyed the views from the Tower and admired the architecture. The Aire offers great views across the valley to the Dore Mountain range which Puy de Sancy is the tallest peak. Forgot to mention that the this where the Dordogne river begins its journey.
