To Rocamadour France

Travelled: 119km
Stay: Rocamadour - free Aire   44.80552, 1.61254

Still overcast this morning. Destination today is Rocamadour. On the way we stopped in Saint Céré and did the walking tour of the highlights of the town.  There were fine examples of half timbered buildings.

We then ventured out to two of the 'most prettiest villages of France', Autoire and Loubressac. They were both quaint and had well maintained buildings. Not as touristy as other villages we have visited, with only a couple of shops and restaurants.

Unlike Rocamadour which is swarming with tourists and the lower street is dedicated to offering visitors all kinds of souvenirs, even wood works from Asia! We even saw a shop selling guns. It was a tad disappointing as it is a well known pilgrim site, second, in France, to Mont St. Michel. We were however, suitably impressed with the higher levels where the Sanctuaries (incl. Chapelle of Notre Dame) are found. We also walked on the castle ramparts admiring the view of the valley. Later we strolled along the top, where the view across to Rocamadour, makes you appreciate what a unique site it really is.

  1. Very quaint! You have travelled through many pretty villages and those cakes look yum! Just as well you are doing a lot of walking.
