Lourdes France

Travelled: 10km
Stay: Lourdes - shopping centre carpark

The streets leading to the Basilica and the Sanctuaries of Notre Dame in Lourdes are  lined with shops selling every religious paraphernalia in existence.
We entered the sanctuary and entered the basilica, which has a beautiful dome roof and amazing mosaics.

We then walked to the Grotte de Massabielle, where a 14year old Saint Bernadette had 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary. This is where many invalids come to touch the stone wall of this very small cave. It was a very moving sight. We felt overwhelmed by the people's belief and hope of finding a cure. Many were accompanied by nursing sisters from the onsite hospital. We felt very appreciative of our good health and life we have.

We also visited the other basilicas, one is even built underground and is 200m x 80m large that can hold 20,000 people.

We then went to visit the Chateau Fort on top of the hill.

Then the rain set in, so we went shopping and decided to join the other motorhomes in the back corner of the E.Leclerc carpark.
