Soave Italy

Travelled:41km
Visited:Verona, Soave
Stay:Soave-aire, €5/24h parking, free services GPS N45.42340 E11.24541

We rode into Verona this morning in the hope that there was a market, but after having a coffee and a croissant filled with apricot jam, we had no hope finding it.

Lucky we didn't get fined!
On the way back to Bluey we went to a supermarket and bought a few essentials - a baguette, fresh pasta and sauce, olives and bread sticks. We did some washing and gave Bluey a clean before listening to the Bombers play. Unfortunately they lost. We were ready to do a bit of a drive to get closer to Venice but about 40km along the freeway we spotted a Castle on top of a hill and decided to get off the autostrade and go and have a look. It had a reasonable aire so we opted to stay. Once another load of washing was done, we walked into the walled village and up to visit the castle which is still privately owned by the same family since 1889. Before then it had been seriously neglected and had been used as a farm since the early 1700's. Since the 10th century it had changed hands many times. Most of the buildings and walls are from the 14th century. We were able to get some lovely views of the valley and vineyards from the top tower and see 3 furnished rooms of the keep. On our way back to Bluey we had a look in one of the churches and couldn't resist a gelato!

Bluey is in the aire just beyond the wall.

Dry white is the local specialty.
