Travelled:58km
Visited:Monselice, Ferrara
Stay: Ferrara-aire, €6/24hr parking, € services GPS N44.83468 E11.60795
Before hitting the road, we went for a stroll into the old quarter of Monselice,
Our spot last night.

New portable pizza oven for Bluey to tow!

passing the castle

then the Villa Nani with dwarf statues on its wall,

finishing up the hill at the old cathedral

and the sanctuary with 7 chapels.

We then drove along the SS road to Ferrara where we parked in the sosta close to the historic centre.

We decided to walk around this afternoon and then ride around tomorrow as its a very bike friendly town. It prides itself as being one of the cities with the highest density of bicycles in the world! The d'Este dynasty ruled over Ferrara from the 13th to the 16th century, having the greatest impact on the city, enriching it with a splendid moated castle, medieval architecture and fine Renaissance palaces. After a haircut and some lunch we went to visit the Castello Estense which was originally built in 1385 as a fortress in defense against the people. Later it was transformed into a magnificant residence with beautiful frescoes. We were able to visit the prison cells in the dungeon with their very small doors and the rooms with wonderful painted ceilings.

We then went to visit the cathedral before returning to Bluey for some much needed rest.

This audio guide must have been one of the first ever...cant see myself walking around with it!

This one of the only cathedrals that still has the shops attached to it.

In the square.
