Sustenpass to Grindelwald, Switzerland

The rain and wind settled down over night but we still woke up to fog.

 Not knowing how long it would take to clear we decided to head down the valley towards Interlaken. To our joy it did not take long for us to be under the clouds and to have a clear view of the valley and lakes. We took the opportunity to walk along the Grimselsee dam and lake and enjoy the vistas with even a bit of sunshine.

We then stopped at Innertkirchen and then went up to Sustenpass. We had a beautiful drive along the valley.

 We then decided to go back down and up to Grindelwald, but it was not very motorhome friendly, so we had a drive around the very touristy but picturesque town and made our way back down. We spotted a wayside and feeling tired we decided to stop.

Grimselpass, Switzerland

Woke up to rain and heavy cloud cover. Made our way back down the valley to Sion and then headed up the Rhone Valley. As the rain and cloud was heavy with the likely hood of tomorrow being the same, we decided that it wasn't worth while to go to Zermatt to gaze upon the Matterhorn. It will have to wait until another time. So on we trudged through the rain up the valley and managed to stop at a lovely village of Munster. We admired the quaint timber chalets and the pretty valley.

With the weather becoming worse we continued on to Gletsch, where the Rhone River starts from the waters of the Rhone Glacier. Unfortunately due to the bad weather the road to the Glacier lookout was closed.

With the rain pelting down on Bluey we zigzagged our way up to Grimselpass and though we can't see a thing and the rain and wind is constant we are tempted to sit it out up here in the hope that tomorrow may bring some relief and we get a chance to gaze out on some beautiful vistas...only time will tell. Grande Dixence Dam, Switzerland

Had a pleasant trip into Switzerland. We travelled along the Rhone valley to Sion and then up another valley to the Grande Dixence Dam. We spent the afternoon visiting inside the dam wall and then taking the cable car to the top of the dam wall and having a lovely, if not a tad windy, stroll around.
For those who are interested here are a few facts:
At 285m, it is the tallest gravity dam ever built. The wall is 15 million tonnes, making it heavier than the Great Pyramid of Cheops. It took 10 years to build. At the lowest point it is 200m thick. It retains 400 billions litres of water and is the largest artificial lake in Switzerland.
