Cormatin, Brancion, Tournus and Lugny France

Travelled: 61km
Stay: Free Aire Lugny   46.46604, 4.81078

Well, we thought we were going to escape winter. Not likely, with a 4 degree start to the day..freezing! Any way we continued on and have had a full day with even some sunshine. We spent the morning visiting our first Chateau in Cormatin. It had amazing rooms with original wooden painted, sculpted and gold leafed panelling and ceilings from 1628. The gardens were also beautiful.

We then visited Brancion, which was once the most important stronghold in Burgundy. Built in the 10th century, it was destroyed in the famous religious war in the 16 century and never recovered. Next, we drove to Tournus, which has the Abbey of St. Philibert. We were able to explore the crypt and the upper level where the the organ baffles were. Fantastic.

With the rain clouds gathering once again, we headed to the Aire in Lugny and drove through the town Chardonnay!   Yes, this is the origins of the Chardonnay wine, of course I had to stop at the cave and by a bottle or two! Cheers to all.
