Stay: Sanary-sur-Mer 1 night. Free (public holiday) parking on foreshore road. 43.1115, 5.81198
Drove through Toulon early, but decided not to stay because the larger city didn't interest us so much, particularly that being a public holiday, attractions would be closed. We headed to an Aire nearby in Sanary-sur-Mer and noticed spots across the road that was right along the beach. Other campers were still there from the night before and said they had had no problems. We went for a ride into the pretty port and strolled around the market and the old quarter. We then rode the other way to Six-Four-les-Plages and walked around Cap Negre and its fort. After a swim we walked back to the port and went up a Roman Tower built in the 13th century and had a beer sitting in a side walk cafe watching the action go by.
