Lake Burbury Tasmania

As we drove out of Strahan we stopped at Hogarth Falls for a lovely rainforest walk to a quaint fall. The kids were kept motivated by the information panels which included primary school students explanations.

It was a 45min drive to Queenstown along a picturesque but bumpy, windy and undulating road.

This was once the richest mining towns in the world, the evidence is apparent in the the moonscapes starkness of the surrounding hills produced by years of copper smelters and the cutting down of the forests. It’s slowly greening up again.

The Empire Hotel is one of 14 that used to be here during the early 1900’s.

The Gravel Football Oval was created because the amount of rainfall would just turn a grass oval to mud, its $5 to stay here but we can’t envision it being too child friendly so we did a quick shop and drive around but decided to keep going.

At the lookout there was some information about the mining era in Queenstown.

We couldn’t resist a walk along the impressive boardwalk to Horsetail Falls.

Another 15mins or so further along we found a great spot at the gorgeous Lake Burbury.

We took a dip in the refreshing water.

Then warmed up at the firepit. A perfect ending.

71km today
