Central Plateau Tasmania

It was a short drive to the start of the Westmorland Falls walk. Once again we were surrounded by beautiful forest as we made our way for 2km to the falls.

We rock hopped the last bit to get a bit closer.

We even spotted some shell fossils imbedded in the rocks. Tasmania keeps wowing us with these great walks.
We stopped again in Mole Creek and looked at the replica mountain hut.

Next we drove to Devils Gullet State Reserve situated on an Alpine Plateau at 1100m alt.
We took the very well constructed path for 15min to a lookout perched 220m high upon a dolerite cliff that provided amazing views of surrounding mountain ranges including Cradle Mountain and Tasmania’s highest point, Mount Ossa at 1617m.

We then continued to the end of the road to Lake Mackenzie which is formed by a dam built in 1972 and is part of the hydro electric scheme. On our approach we drove along man made canals, concrete channels, tunnels and pipes.

We had lunch in the shores of the lake.

On our way back out we had a look at the Mole Creek Karst National Park campsite on the bank of the Mersey River and managed to squeeze into got a great little spot. We couldn’t resist a refreshing dip before a refreshing drink. Cheers.
