Freycinet National Park Tasmania

It was another big day of exploring today with several walks in the amazing Freycinet National Park.

It was an earlier start than expected in Fingal with the toot of a coal freight train travelling past behind Buster at 6am. So after our coffee we had a look at the convict cells, a church and school on top of the hill.

We then stopped on St Mary’s which was a more thriving town. We drove down Elephant Pass to the A3, the main road heading along the East Coast.

We stopped in Bicheno having a look at the rocky granite headland and of course the blowhole.

We continued south to Freycinet National Park, a rugged and beautiful peninsula. Our first port of call was the walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout.

As we tracked upwards we get great views of Cole Bay and beyond.

Beautiful escarpments.
Some wild flowers still blooming.
Plenty of steps to get there..
Ahhh finally a spot to recover.
Hahah Mark couldn’t resist this photo opportunity

30 mins later we arrive at several superb platforms overlooking this iconic bay in the shape of a wineglass. We soak in the view before heading back to Buster.

We drive out to Cape Tourville which offers a great cliff board walk around the lighthouse with remarkable coastal views.

The white sand is wineglass bay in the distance.

On the way back we stop at Sleepy Bay that is a small beach flanked by picturesque granite boulders and clear turquoise waters. We had fond memories of our visit here 25years ago with our children.

Unfortunately there were no suitable spots for Buster to stay overnight so we left the peninsula and found a terrific spot at a boat ramp on the Swan River.

196km today…
