Sheffield Tasmania

The drive from our camp at Mersey River took us up and over the mountains. We stopped at a lookout near Mount Roland that offered  great views.

We then descended into the valley below and stopped at O’Neills Creek Reserve to have breakfast. Further on was Sheffield, a rural town that remade itself into  mural mecca.

Cradle Mountain

There were some substantial historic buildings as well as some quirky ones.

We rested the afternoon away in Railton which was known as the Town of Topiary. Unfortunately many of these bushy sculptures needed a bit of a prune and some had completely vanished. It appears someone is trying to get new plants to grow to keep the attraction alive.

The local industry is the cement plant that has been going since 1923. They export its product to the mainland. We did see it coming into town but here is a mural on the side of the cafe.
So that’s us for the day…as we await the arrival of Tom and his family.

50km today
