Arkaroola SA

After a quick coffee we set off early out of Grindells Campground to avoid meeting other cars on the narrow track back out to Arkaroola Road. It took us 50 mins to do the 17km out. Unfortunately Buster will need a cut and polish when we get home as it was impossible to avoid all the bushes and trees. We then rattled (corrugations) into Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary. After a history of unsuccessful mining and pastoral use, the Sprigg family purchased the land here in 1967 and the village and wildlife sanctuary was created and still remains under their control. Many paid tours and activities are in offer or you can explore the area yourself. We paid  $25 for a unpowered site and then had some breakfast.

We decided to get the hardest walk done first and before the day got too hot. The Acacia Ridge track is one of the must do’s,  as we missed the drop off car we decided to walk from the village up to the summit (566alt) and back instead of the whole circuit walk. It was a bit of a hard slog but rewarding with all the amazing views

After our return we drove out to have a look at the Pinnacles.

We then returned to camp.
