Travelled: 197 km from Orleans to Vouvray
Visited: Orleans
Stay: Vouvray : Aire - free parking, € services N47°24.549' E 0°47.812'
We drove into Orleans just before 8am and managed to find a parking spot along the river. We got a ticket until 2pm. It cost €6 ( €2/hr from 9-12 and then free until 2pm). So we rugged up as it was quite fresh and headed towards the impressive cathedral St.Croix.
Joan of Arc famously saved the city from English siege in 1429 and even though she only stayed here for 11 days, she in know as the Maid of Orleans. Every year there is a festival for her too. There is also a statue and a house in which she stayed dedicated to her.
We enjoyed walking through the ancient town with its beautiful paved streets and trams.
Some interesting door handles.
This looked very unusual- the cars driving along the raised platform at the tram stop, which is also shared with pedestrians who have to wait under the arched passage until the tram comes! Glad we didn't take Bluey up that street!
We returned to the cathedral to visit inside, as it was not open earlier. Most of the shops didn't open until 10am.
Later we went to see the highly decorated rooms of the Town Hall and admired this brick building.
On our way back to Bluey we crossed over the old bridge to the towers where Joan of Arc had started her battle.
Then it was time to set off further south towards Limoges.
On our way there we started having problems with our Sat Nav, Camy. The touch screen was playing up preventing us from programming destinations. We had no choice but to find the closest motorhome accessories store to purchase a new one. We drove 1 1/2 hours out of our way to a Narbonne store near Tours. They sold either Garmin 760 or Snooper (which don't have a good reputation). So we put poor old camy to the side (we still want to use the rear camera) and programmed Gamy (I know it's not very original) to the nearest aire and settled in for the night.
The new setup..
Hope you encounter no more problems on your journey.
ReplyDeleteWe're feeling rather envious reading your blog, seeing your photos.
Motorhoming is a great way of travelling and we're going to miss it.
Have a wonderful trip, stay safe. xx
Yes not a great start for the bank account! It's a pity we won't be able to bump into each other this year, but we are very excited in following your next adventure in America. We will need to find new competitors for our boules championship! Take care xx
