Day 30/Spain 5
Travelled: 163km through the Sierra de La Demanda stopping in Anguiano, Valvanera Monastery, Canales de La Sierra, Yecla Gorge (stayed in the parking area 41.9482, -3.4430)We farewelled our very friendly Dutch neighbours and we’re on the road to explore the Sierra de La Demanda.
Our first stop was Anguiano which is famous for its colourful stilt dance that is down through the village along the steep cobbled streets. We keep wondering how the older citizens cope walking around these hilly towns.
We diverted off the LR113 to drive 5km to the Valanera Monastery. The church building dates back to the 15thC made out of the local sandstone. It’s setting is very peaceful surrounded by lovely forest.
The theatre in Canales de La Sierra was lovely along with the rotunda and bridge…
We continued todays journey driving along a reservoir encountering some locals..
As we were driving along we saw a tower on top of a hill and followed the arrow across the bridge which should have indicated to us that maybe the road wasn’t passable with Bluey… just a bit squeezy. Then an older gentleman indicated that we would need a key from the bar…it all become too complicated so we backed up and over the bridge we went again..
Then the high altitude (1285m) road became very bumpy with Bluey’s contents being well and truly shaken. We popped into a Dia in Salas before making our way across the N234 to St Domingo. The gorge drive was lovely and just after the town and through a couple of tunnels we were at the Yecla Gorge walk.
It’s just 600m but a very picturesque walk along a hanging walkway through a narrow limestone gorge.
There are also hundreds of vultures nesting on the cliffs above.
Love all your photos, looks like you are having another adventure filled holiday …stay safe … Linda & John
