Day 34/Spain 9
Travelled: 75km driving through the Picos de Europa stopping in Valdeon and Potes.Stay: Camaleno wild parking 43.1500, -4.6951
Who ever said ‘the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain’ must have never been to the mountains.. during the night we were given a dramatic sound and light show along with a pelting of rain… we managed to falls asleep again and awoke to a calm sunny morning. So after our coffee we made the most of the beautiful day. Looking back on the viewpoint from yesterday…
At Puerto de Pandetrave we gazed out once again the the various peaks of the Picos and some vultures flying around.
We had a cuppa in a lovely grassed rest area next to a river.
We drove through a lovely little gorge.
We stopped to have a look at a traditional shepherds hut and a Dutch couple pointed out a near extinct burnt tip orchid.
At Puerto de San Glorio we cooked to galettes for lunch and admired the views from 1609m alt.
From here it was down hill all the way (over 1000m) into Potes. The small ancient town has become the main centre of the eastern side of the Picos de Europa and on a Sunday afternoon was very busy. We managed to get a bit of information from the tourist office about the Fuente De cable car.
We enjoyed a refreshing beer before turning Bluey towards a shady and cooler place for the remainder of the afternoon.
