Day 51/France 36
Travelled: 23km from Heric Gorge to Bedarieux in Haut Languedoc région FranceStay: Bedarieux, shading spot next to the Orb River 43.6361, 3.1641
So our main purpose of staying overnight in the Heric Gorge carpark was to go an walk the 10km return walk this morning as it was going to be a hot day. It’s been a classified site since 1993 and is essentially a walk along a track to the little hamlet of Heric. Historically chestnuts were gathered here as their main source of income. It wasn’t until 1997 that the track was sealed in concrete all the way. This made the 5km and 330m alt up more pleasurable than having to scramble over rocks.
We followed the stream with its little waterfalls and numerous watering holes that are popular on hot days for a refreshing dunk.
After just over an hour we made it to Heric that is little more than a few stone buildings, a cafe and a veggie patch.
There are several walking tracks that continue from here but we returned to Bluey the same way we came.
Over a cuppa we decided on our next destination… a shady spot next to the river in Bedarieux. It was a pleasant drive.
Looks like a lovely walk, no such thing as a free stop in Denmark.
