Stay:Zakopane Poland - paid parking area 20zloty/24hrs (€5). N49.2873 E19.9663
We were up early and it didn’t appear that there was a service point where we were staying. Because we plan to spend a few days in the Tatra mountains we wanted to empty the toilet before we went. For some reason even the camp ground in Wieliczka didn’t have a dump point so we made a dash to a motorhome dealer back towards Krakow. Once done we took the road to Zakopane... and it was a pain! The trip took us over 3 hours due to road works and the town being a popular holiday destination.
Billboards line the road
Traditional haystacks
We nearly gave up on finding a parking spot but as we were heading out of town we had a quick look in a side street and as there was room decided to stay.
We walked down to the main street Krupowki and we’re overwhelmed with the crowd. The street was lined with shops and tacky souvenir stands with of course restaurants.
Traditional smoked goats cheese
Not a popular selling item atm.
We persevered to the end where there was a funicular to Gubalowka mountain. We did contemplate an ascend but we were not in the mood to deal with hustle and bustle. At the tourist office we enquired about the 2 hour walk to Lake Morskie Oko but we’re once again put off by the crowds. On the up side we we liked the architecture of some of the buildings.
We retraced our steps halfway up Krupowki, popped in to look at the church and then took a quieter side street back to Bluey.
In the quieter months we would have enjoyed the hikes and activities on offer here but at the moment we are in search of a little spot to chill out for a couple of days.
We will leave in the morning as we were told the Tour de Pologne will be here tomorrow afternoon...bringing even more people in this town!
