Passau Germany

Travelled:125km
Stay:Passau-stellplatz €8/24hr, service point N48.5787 E13.4741

We had an easy drive along the autobahn to Passau and decided to stay in the paid parking area closer to town as it was another hot day. The old town lies on a peninsula between the rivers Danube and Inn. There is also a 3rd but smaller river Ilz. We crossed the the Danube and walked along narrow and windy cobbled streets and got a city map from the colourful Rathaus with its Neo-Gothic tower.

From here, on the otherside of the Danube lies high above, the fortification Veste Oberhaus which was once a castle for the prince-bishops.

We popped in to look inside St.Paul’s church and then continued on to St.Stephen’s Cathedral.

We then crossed the Inn River and walked up to Mariahilf Church and enjoyed the view of Passau.

Before returning to Bluey we walked out to the end of the peninsula where the 3 rivers converge. Their different colours is very noticeable.

In the afternoon another short storm cooled things down and later in the evening we wondered over to the beer festival and had possibly our last currywurst. A nice way to end our stay in Germany.
