Freistadt Austria to Kromeriz Czech R

Travelled:411km
Stay: Kromeriz Czech Republic- free street parking N49.3003 E17.4022
Visited: Freistadt Austria

Today turned out to be a travel day! Our journey in Blue. Three countries in one day.

We started by following the Danube River out of Passau and then drove along the less travelled but beautiful road #38 to Freistadt Austria.

The country side was so green and well manicured!

We stopped to have a walk around the old walled town. It was once the last border fortress on the route leading from Alpine countries to Bohemia. We entered via one of the two impressive remaining gateways.

The town boasts a big town square lined with historic houses including the Rathaus.

The castle became a military barracks after being destroyed by fire in 1888 and now is a museum.

We continued on route 38 until Horn Austria and stopped for lunch in the stellplatz. We decided the day was still young and too hot for visiting so we kept going and made a bee line for Znojmo Czech Republic.

It is one of the regions oldest walled towns set high up above the Dyje River.

We drove along a narrow road towards the parking area.

We were a bit over 3t but we risked it and could  hear the bridge groan as we drove over it...we had to do it 3 times! Once to go and have a look at the parking..it was full. So back again to leave but then realised we had to go over it again to get to our next destination...oh dear.

And then we saw the road we had to take..we did hesitate but then Mark put his foot on the pedal and up Bluey went...

We arrived in the main square. Similar to Freistadt, it was not very busy as all the shops are closed on Sundays.

We took a few photos and continued our travels past Brno and called it a day in historic Kromeriz which we will visit tomorrow.
