We said our farewells to Tim and Indie after a yummy bacon roll breakfast.
Our first stop was a lovely little harbour village of Charlestown. In its heyday it was a busy port, exporting the nearby clay.
Then strolled around the harbour.
Enjoyed our first Cornish patsie,,it did not disappoint
We peeked into the church before we left too.
Falmouth is a much larger town and has the 3rd largest naturally deep harbour (after Sydney and Rio de Janeiro). The weather didn’t lend itself to a long stroll through the town, so we parked at the end of the Pandennis area and did a quick explore of the defensive ruins here built by Henry VIII.
Next we drive down to the most southerly point on mainland Britain at Lizard.
We park in the village green and set off towards the Lighthouse, the most powerful in England, visible for 34km. Unfortunately it appears closed to visitors so we continue down to the most southerly café.
Just beyond this is an old shed set along the dramatic cliffs and rugged coastline.
Tonight we stay in the carpark of the Halzephron Inn in Gunwalloe just below Helston. We book a table for 6pm as we are told it is often booked out! It amazes us how these out of the way pubs get so many customers. Dinner is fish and chips and fish pie washed down with a half a pint for just under £40 which pays for our stay. Let’s hope the wind dies down tonight as the van is a rocking.
151km today
