Gorlitz Germany

It was another busy day on the road.

After a lovely quiet night, we made our way into Novy Bor, Czech Republic, a town known for its glass industry. The round abouts had sculptures made with glass as well as several others around the town. Unfortunately we were too early to check out the museum.

The local brew.
These type of artificial flowers seen very popular in Czech Republic

From here we crossed the border into Germany via Luckendorf, located in southern Zittau Mountains. Napoleon even came this way…

There were many interesting rock formations in the area. We managed to see the Chalice Rocks.

We stopped in the charming village of Oybin that is catered for the tourist and hikers.

We decided to continue on to Zittau.  We paid €2/2.5hrs and walked into the historical centre. The town is located in the Saxony area of Germany. We strolled through the historical centre. Then had lunch at a butcher/bakery that served ‘fast food’. Mark had a bratwurst and I enjoyed stuffed peppers and sauerkraut.

We next made our way further north along the border of Germany and Poland to Gorlitz.

Before visiting the old town we found a laundromat via Park4night to do our washing. They seem hard to find in this the region. So luckily we managed to park (€1/30mins) opposite the laundromat as it was in the inner city. After 1hr and 10mins and €9.50 plus €6 drying we could leave to find a free spot next to the river on the outskirts of town (but only 10mins I to the heart of the old town).

There were many lovely buildings and a great atmosphere to the town which borders with Zgorzelec, Poland on the other side of the Neisse River split since 1945.

The start of Obermarket and old tower marking the entrance of the old town.

Intricate doorways .

One end of Obermarket.
St.Peter and Paul. The biggest church here.

Another clock tower.
Another small square
One the best fountains we have seen… makes you smile
Some interesting decorations
Poland on the other side of the river.

We went in search for somewhere to eat for dinner but we ended up returning to Bluey for a nice smoked salmon salad.
88km today.
