Sarrebourg France

Travelled:66km
Stay:Xures- parking on Marne-Rhine Canal N48.6880 E6.6570
Visited: St.Louis incline, Sarrebourg, Norauto (new brakes)

Travelling as we do there are always days that don’t go to plan. This morning we were to visit Saint Louis Arzviller inclined plane which was built in 1969 to replace 17 locks on the Marne-Rhine Canal. A journey that once took a whole day to do now only takes 20mins. Quite a feat. The design is basically a lift system and now days used mainly by pleasure boats rather than marchant boats.

As we drove up to the parking area to wait for the tour to open at 10am, we heard and felt the brakes making unusual sounds. We called the nearest Norauto in Sarrebourg and decided to go there straight away, forgoing our visit to the incline. It was confirmed that we needed new brake pads and the earliest appointment was at 4:30pm. So we ventured into town and we’re surprised with the amount of statues and flower arrangements scattered through the town.  Unfortunately, other than the Main Street there was not much to see.

So we returned to Bluey for lunch, went shopping, where we managed to find a video cable for the Garmin and then returned to Norauto to wait for our appointment. During that time Mark pulled off the dashboard and connected the wires so that the reversing camera worked with the Garmin gps.

Then at 5:30pm we were driving off with new brake pads and €197 less in the bank account! We had picked a spot on the canal 40min away and we’re very happy to find a lovely parking area there. A home cooked dinner of chicken pasta washed down with beer and sparkling wine, followed by a stroll along the canal, completed our day.

Mark feels fire wood envy seeing this
