Stay:France Labaroche- free parking at woodworking museum. N48.1040 E7.1919
Visited:Eguisheim, Woodworking Museum Labaroche €6pp
As we have already visited the blackforest area a couple of times before, so we said ‘Auf Wiedersehen’ to the Danube River and Germany and Bonjour La France.
Bluey just squeezed through
Must be a great story behind this busy looking fountain.
We have always had fond memories of the Alsace region from the first year we visited in 2013 and so we crossed the Rhine River and made our way to the lovely Eguisheim. It is classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France and also has a 4 Flower rating. We enjoyed strolling around admiring the colourful half timbered buildings adorned with flowers.
In the centre square a fountain is dedicated to Saint Leon, as the town is the birthplace of Pope Leon.
After enjoying a baguette for lunch we thought to follow a walking trail through the vignerons and then spend the night in the motorhome parking area.
However our plans changed when we found out that some roads where to be closed tomorrow due to a Marathon. So back to Bluey we went and onto Labaroche making it in time to visit the very interesting Woodworking Museum.
There was an extensive exhibition showing lots of different tools and machinery to make a variety wooden products - farming tools, toys and models, cheese boxes are some examples.
Making cheeses boxes
Making clogs
Over 900 toys are on display
Woodworking tools
Model of a staircase made by guild member
Working scale model of wood cutting machinery
Making wooden water pipes
1700’s wood sawing machinery
Steam engine log splitter
Steam engine to run belts for a factory (50 horse power would power 200 machines)
Blade sharpening machines
After our 2 hour visit we went for a nice walk through the village and then settled in Bluey for the night.
