Bad Tolz Germany

Travelled:87km
Stay:Bad Tolz- motorhome parking area €8/24hr, service point N47.7629 E11.5507
Visited: Kufstein Austria, Bad Tolz Germany

After a quiet and cool night, we woke to another beautiful day. We drove a short distance to Kufstein.

It’s pumpkin time.

Lots of effort for the roundabouts here.

On the rocky hill above the Inn river stands the town’s impressive medieval fortress that has defended the town from Bavaria, Tirol and the Habsburg Empire.

We strolled through the very short Romerhofgasse, a reconstructed medieval lane with arches, lanterns and frescoed facades.

Other buildings that caught our eye.

The town is also home to the well known Riedl Glass factory since 1756.
Then it was over the border into Bavaria Germany once again. It was straight through as at last there was no passport check point.

We just fitted through....

We took the minor roads which afforded us some very picturesque scenery.
We came down into the valley village of Bayrischzell which has plenty of hiking trails and no less than 21 ski lifts.

Further along we drove through Schliersee set on the shore of the lake.

Most Bavarian towns have a decorative pole such as this.

It was very busy so we continued onto Bad Tolz. We have been here before and the fond memories of our last visit has prompted us to return. We parked on the banks of the Isar River and walked along the river to the historical centre.

This used to be the commercial hub for traders and travellers. Unfortunately the river rafting trade eventually ended in the 1920’s when the river levels were effected by the Walchensee power station. It then relied on the artistic cabinet-making and breweries (22 in the 18thC). In the middle of the 19thC, iodine springs were discovered and it became a spa town attracting many tourists. As we strolled along the Marktstrasse, a pedestrian only street, we admired the frescoed buildings.

We then enjoyed lunch and a beer at the Munich Hofbrau beer hall.

Lovely old heater in restaurant
