There are plenty of these roadside mini chapels or memorials.

It took us just over an hour winding down the mountain to get to Ancient Olympia. We found a terrific little parking spot under the trees, had breakfast and we’re in the archeological site before the crowds and the heat.  This was a major Panhellenic religious sanctuary where the Olympic Games originated from in the 8th century BC.

After strolling around the ancient site trying to imagine what it must have been like in its prime, we went to visit the 2 museums, one dedicated to the findings on the site,

These where offerings to Zeus

Parts of buildings

the other to the ‘games’ performed here.

We then drove a couple of hours to our lovely spot on the beach underneath a gumtree, spending the rest of the day chilling out.

We have been learning how to drive in Greece..stay in the shoulder so others can pass...

Over the bridge for €13.30 or €11 for the ferry
