Over the mountain into Italy

Travelled: 206km via Gap & Barcelonette
Stay: Italy- Borgo San Dalmazzo: free parking and services N44.32889 E7.49167

After a very quiet night, we finished our picturesque route into Gap,

where we stopped to do our services at the SuperU heading out of town. Water was payable and there was plenty of free parking as well as a laverie in the carpark to do a clothes wash! For fellow travellers- GPS N44°32.6340' E6°4.0248'

The drive from here to Barcelonette is also pretty, passing  through a fertile valley full of fruit trees and following the river into town.

We stopped for last minute supplies, a full French gas bottle and to fill up the tank as the petrol is more expensive in Italy. Then it was up the mountain we drove until we reached the Colle della Maddalena at the French/Italian border. We stopped for lunch and did a bit of marmot spotting but only saw one digging a burrow.

From here it was down hill all the way starting with 18 hairpin corners. We were lucky today as it is the Italian National Day no trucks were allowed to use the road however the motorbikes were out in force.
As we have travelled this road twice before we didn't stop for any sight seeing but decided to keep going getting us closer to the coast for tomorrow. Finding a spot in the camper parking area in Borgo San Dalmazzo, we then went for a stroll into town after dinner.
