Travelled:113km along Slea Head Drive, Dingle Peninsula, Wild Atlantic Way
Stay:Killarney lookout carpark N52.0771 W9.5573
Once again the wind and rain kept us company for most of the night. After a quick coffee we were off to do the Slea Head Drive before it got busy.
We are advised to do the Drive clockwise from Dingle and we were happy that there was hardly anyone moving about at 7am when we drove along the most narrowest part.
We stopped for breakfast at Dunmore Head and went for a walk up to the most westerly point of Europe.
On the top of the hill we encountered a Ogham Stone and a former watch tower.
The views of Blasket Sound and Islands were breathtaking.
A little further on we walked down the very picturesque and narrow ‘road’ to Dunquin Pier.
We managed to beat the rain and whilst having a cuppa Pedro and Marie joined us and we enjoyed another chat before continuing on.
At Clogher Head the views of the coastal cliffs were amazing.
This area was also used in Star War films.
We did a little detour to Smerwick Beach which would have been a lovely spot to stop if it was later in the day.
So we continued on admiring the landscape, eventually finishing the loop back to Dingle just in time for the Bombers game. The town was super busy but we managed to find parking at Lidl. Mark plugged in and I did some shopping. After the win we went for a quick walk into town. It was touristy and the streets lined with colourful shops and pubs.
As we had overstayed our welcome at Lidl (2 hour limit) we drove back on the WAW to Castlemaine and then detoured towards Killarney.
It was very windy at Inch Point.
As it was getting late in the day (4pm) and feeling a little weary from our early start, we decided on a spot just out of town at a lookout. We doubled check with an Irish motorhome if it was ok to stay and with an affirmative answer we pulled up stumps. We went to enjoy the view over the lake and then called it a day.
