Beara Peninsula Ireland

Day 87/Ireland 20
Travelled:92km Kenmare then on the Ring Of Beara drive to Eyeries
Stay: Travara Harbour N51.6772 W9.9995

After a peaceful night we drove 27km to Kenmare, a bit of a tourist hub as it sits in between the Ring of Kerry and Beara Peninsula. Our aim, on this rainy morning, was to get our washing done. Unfortunately we had to wait for our turn, luckily we are not on a tight schedule. After we went for a quick shop and then headed off along the Ring of Beara drive.

Pedro and Marie told us about buying smoked fish from this place just 5km out of Kenmare. €20/kg

The Beara Peninsula is dotted with sparsely populated fishing villages and some more narrow one lane roads. We ventured along the coastal road as we weren’t seeing much through the trees.

Lots of oyster farms

After a short section we had had enough and so made it back to the main road to Eyeries. This is another colourful town, which is always cheery on a grey day.

We picked out a spot that may be alright for tonight at Travara harbour and decided that it was Guinness time and we needed to rest up before completing the Peninsula tomorrow.
