Travelled: 100km along Beara Peninsula to Bantry. Then another 170km to Cahir, Tipperary
Stay: Cahir outside Sweeney Caravan Repairs N52.3820 W7.9190
Knowing that the Ring of Beara was quite narrow, we set off after our morning coffee.
We enjoyed the scenery along the way and stopped at Allihies to have a look at the remains of the copper mine.
The road got wider from here down to Dursay Head where you can take a cable car across to the island. Holds 6 people or one cow...As the weather was not great we decided not to go.
We ventured on to Castletownbere, parking in their relatively new designated motorhome area.
We had a stroll around and had a look at the RC Church.
We also enjoyed walking along the harbour looking at the big fishing boats.
The rain began in earnest so we thought we may as well continue on to Bantry. With umbrellas at the ready we went to have a look around.
Took refuge at a pub and quenched out thirst with a pint. We had a chat to a couple from Richmond.
We then enjoyed a late lunch at the Fish Kitchen.
We persisted with a bit more walking and had a look in the church before returning to Bluey.
We drove a little bit out of town to a bathroom plumbing supplier and had no luck in getting a new cartridge for a leaking flickmixer tap in Bluey. On closure inspection Mark found that the tap connections under the sink were leaking quite badly. Unfortunately the closest caravan repair dealer that had parts was 170km in Cahir, near Tipperary! As we cannot use our water until we fix the leak we had no choice but to drive there.
We blew a kiss to the Blarney Stone as we drove past...
2.5 hours later having sung “it’s a long way to Tipperary” a few times we made it to Cahir only to discover they have recently moved to another premises 17km further on. As it was late and dark we decided to stay put and drive there tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed we can get the parts we need.
