Bamberg Germany

Travelled:63km
Stay:Bamberg stellplatz €15 parking, paid services. 15min walk from the old town. 49.886002 , 10.902800

We had an easy drive up the autobahn to Bamberg and we were lucky to get 2 places together at the stellplatz that is located on the Main Danube Canal.

Only in Germany are cigarettes sold in suburban streets.
Bamberg is very charming. The Old Town Hall appears to be perched on a rocky outcrop in the middle of the river.

Old Town Hall - notice the leg poking out.
Small medieval half-timbered buildings line the bank of the River Regnitz.
Feeling hungry we decided to try out one of the many brew taverns for lunch, enjoying both the traditional dishes and beers.

We then walked up to St.Michael’s Monastery, founded by the Benedictine monks in 1015. Unfortunately it was closed for renovations, so we walked along the terrace which offered panoramic views of the city.
From here we went to the Dom, the imperial cathedral of St.Peter and St.George. This was also closed. So we went have a look at the Old Court inner courtyard which was surrounded by half-timbered buildings.

The other big building up here was the huge four-winged complex know as the ‘New Residence’ we had a stroll in the beautiful rose garden which also had great views.

We managed a bit of retail therapy before returning to Bluey.
We made our way back into town finding another place to pause and enjoy the local refreshments.
