Stay: Verneuil sur Avre - free aire (parking and Services) N48.74010 E000.9301
Our great departure had finally arrived and we took our flight to Paris with Singapore Airlines, albeit, a bit later than usual.
Once again, upon our arrival, we were greeted by André who drove us from the airport back to Bluey via the supermarket. We spent the day unpacking and sorting as well as getting reconnected with the way things work. Luckily we made lists, as with the jet lag the brain was working slow. Anyway we manage to reconnect the batteries, fill the water tank and turn on the gas.
We woke early the next morning to lightning and thunder but the worst of the storm passed us by. We did a bit of planning and then left to go to get Bluey’s annual Ford Service in Cauffry, 15mins away. We did a bit of shopping while we wait and then with a clean bill of health we set off towards Verneuil in the South Normandy.
Driving along the narrow country roads that the GPS decides to take us on...
Along the cobbled stones of Chantilly we go as we pass the beautiful Castle.
The poppies are blossoming in the fields
Across the Seine River and through another pretty village
The aire in Verneuil sur Avre has good reviews as well as the town.
From 1120 the ramparts have protected the city. It was even spared from destruction during WWII.
Arming ourselves with a walking map from the tourist office, we set off to explore the essence of the town. Saint Madeleine Church and it’s beautiful ornamental tower dominates the main square.
We then admired the house with a turret and other significant buildings.
There were many wonderfully restored half timbered buildings.Once upon a time there where 7 churches and abbeys.
The Grey Tower was built as a dungeon and can now be visited for a fee.
After a thorough explore we returned to Bluey for dinner and still feeling jet lagged we succumbed to an early night.
Welcome to your second home Bluey. I will follow you with pleasure.
