Point St.Mathieu and Point Corsen France

Travelled:240km
Visited: Point St.Mathieu and Point Corsen, Finistere
Stay: Point Corsen- free carpark, no facilities N48°24.8982' W4°47.6328'

As it was going to be a rainy start to the day we decided to get on the freeway and go to the most westerly point of mainland France. We had missed this part of the coast when we travelled here 2 years ago. On the way we stopped for gas, fuel and food.
When we arrived at Point St.Mathieu the drizzle stopped and we went for an explore. Between the lighthouse and the semaphore lies the ruins of a medieval abbey. In 1250 the monks began to hang a lantern on top of a tower to guide ships. Ever since there has been a light here, even after the abbey was destroyed.

We walked along the coastal path and had a look at a few bunkers left here in WWII.

We also had a closer look at the Memorial for sailors lost at sea.

We then drove through Le Conquet to Point Corsen, the most westerly point of mainland France. We had a walk around and thought we may as well stop here the night.
