We drove 1/2 hour North to the otherside of Caen and stopped at Pegasus Bridge. It was built in 1934 and crosses the Caen Canal. It got its name from the emblem worn by the British airborne forces in honour of their major operation in taking the bridge during the WWII Allied Invasion on the 6th June 1944.
As we had previously visited the Normandy Landing Beaches we took the inland road via Bayeux to Utah Beach. We did go a walk along the beach here its hard to imagine that day on the now peaceful coastline.
We then continued on the coastal road to St.Vaast la Hougue. We enjoyed a pleasant walk in this very pretty port town with its 2 Vauban fortified towers built in 1694.
Even though we got caught out in the rain we were rewarded with some beautiful rainbows.
Our stop for the night was in Barfleur, 'one of the prettiest villages of France'. We went to explore around the port area before settling in for the night. Just love the tidal movements here...
