Besse and Lac Pavin

Travelled: 80km
Visited: Besse et St Antastaise, Lac Pavin, Super Besse
Stay: Lac Pavin - in parking near the lake - wild and free! GPS N45°30.0036' E2°53.1318'

Before getting on the road we went to the boulangerie in town.

We then followed the picturesque road down towards Issoire.

We stopped in Perrier hoping it was the one known for its water. Unfortunately it is another. Never mind. After a chat on Skype with our son and daughter and my mum, we drove to Besse et St Anastaise. A beautiful medieval and Renaissance town built from grey volcanic rock. We enjoyed strolling through the narrow streets admiring the buildings and did a bit of shopping.

We bought the local Brioche de Tome (salty version with bacon and cheese) for lunch which we ate once we got to Lac Pavin, only 3km away.

Getting our fruit intake for the day!

We then had a lovely walk around the circular crater lake which is shrouded by trees.

We then drove to Super Besse, a large ski resort 4 km away, to have a look at the 200 place aire. Not 1 camping car! and you have to pay for the privilege.

As it lacked atmosphere, it was back to the lake. We found a nice level spot looking out at the snow capped mountains with the sound of a waterfall near by. No complaints.
