The Lot to the Dordogne France

Travelled: 121km
Visited:Luzech, Albas, Bélaye, Villefranche du Périgord, Belvès
Stay: Belvès - aire free parking and services with a great valley view GPS N44°46.635' E1°00.458'

We drove off heading towards the Dordogne. On the way we stopped in Luzech and had a walk around the old quarter and up to the Tour to views of the Lot River.

Our next stop was in Albas, situated on a cliff overlooking the Lot River and vignerons.

From here we took some narrow roads in and out of Bélaye which rewarded us with lovely views of the Lot Valley.

We drove through Puy l'Eveque and decided to stop in Villefranche du Périgord for lunch. After a chat on Skype with friends from home, Bob and Robyn, we strolled around the medieval town and admired the covered market places known as 'les halles'. This is  classified as a 'Bastide' village as it is generally surrounded by a defensive wall and constructed on a geometric plan and although its exact configuration is dependant on the landscape, there are two main streets located on a sort of promontory, with a network of parallel streets and perpendicular alleyways.

As we approached the Dordogne River we were side tracked to stop in another bastide village of Belvès. The rain had set in so we settled our selves in the aire with a view of the valley. When the weather cleared we made our way to the Tourist Office for a map of the village and had a stroll around.
