Purnululu NP North, WA

It was another early start so that we could do the walks before it got too hot, leaving camp at 7am and starting our first walk to Mini Palm Gorge by 7:15.

It’s a 4.4km return walk that took us 2 hours.

This side of the park is quite different and we enjoyed walking through the lovely vegetation and then along the dry creek bed. The trail narrows as we enter the gorge with lots of Livistona palms.

We had to climb under, over and squeeze through boulders.

Then climb up steps to viewing platforms of the soaring cliffs at the end.

We returned the same way back to Buster and took him another 4km to the Echidna carpark. From here it was only 2km return/1 hour hike to the Chasm.

The section along the dry creek bed was very similar until we came to the 180m deep chasm. It was narrow and windy as we made our way further in to a larger chamber. Then went a little bit further along another section until we were blocked by some boulders.

On our return we went up to Osmond lookout offering panoramic views of this ancient range.

Having seen the highlights of the Purnululu National Park we then made our way back to the highway along 60km of one of the worst roads we have driven along.

1hour 45mins later we were at the rest stop having lunch, using the dump point, getting rid of our rubbish and airing up the tyres for some smoother driving as we head back north towards Kununurra.

155km /1.5 hrs later we were parked up once again at Doon Doon lookout for a quiet night.

237km today
