We drove 36km into Katherine this morning.
It is the third largest town in the Northern Territory and situated on the banks of the Katherine River. It is a popular stopping point on the Stuart Highway. Its primary appeal is Katherine Gorge, in the Nitmiluk National Park. It has population of around 6,000 and an important RAAF base is nearby.
After filling up with the cheapest fuel for a while $1.76 we stop at the hot springs. We were surprised that there was only one other car when we arrived at 8am, so we had it to ourselves for bit. The beautiful clear water was at a pleasant 32° and the stream surrounded by trees created a lovely calm atmosphere.
We did some shopping at Woolworths and then made our way to Katherine Gorge which lies at the southern end of the Nitmiluk National Park. There are actually thirteen gorges each of which is separated by rocky sections which become exposed during the dry season.

They are the longest 2 Gorges. The guide was very knowledgeable, learning about Indigenous Culture, history of the region, flora, fauna and much more!
We spotted some fresh water crocodiles along the way too.
We treated ourselves to a night at the Discovery caravan park ($71 on) so we could catch up with Matt and his family, also travelling from Melbourne in their truck.
