Bells Gorge WA

Today we continued our journey along the Gibb River Road. We left our campsite at Lennard River at 7:20 am heading east.

Not long after we encountered the Queen Victoria Head rock formation, a striking natural marvel that remarkably resembles the profile of the renowned monarch.

As we traversed the King Leopold Range, the Gibb River Road gracefully winds through a sequence of sweeping curves, with certain stretches featuring a smooth, tarred surface. As the road ascends towards Inglis Gap, the lookout provides impressive vistas to the east, giving us a chance to appreciate the scenic beauty of the ever changing surrounding landscape.

94km later we arrived at the turn off to Bells Gorge.

We have been pleasantly surprised with the driving conditions so far. The next 29km to the gorge is slightly rougher and had about 6 small creek crossings. All in all it took us 2 hours to drive the total of 123km this morning.

We had some breakfast before heading off in the hike.

The first 1.5km is classified Grade 4 due to the loose and uneven rocky path that leads to a dry river bed and ends at the top of the Dalmanyi waterfall.

Here we were rewarded with spectacular views.

To get to the base of the falls it was a bit more challenging but very doable.

At the bottom there was a deep pool nestled amid majestic sandstone walls and the chance to cool off in the inviting waters.

After our climb back up we enjoyed another dip in the river.

Then it was back to Buster and a 29km drive back to the turn off where we had spotted some campers this morning. We were first to arrive at 2pm but by night fall the clearing was full!

151km today
