Australian Outback NSW Mutawintji NP

Today we travelled 130km from Broken Hill to Mutawintji National Park.

Spending 2 nights in a lovely bush camp $12/night including toilets and hot showers. (-31.282499, 142.295356).

The park is the tribal area of the Malyankapa and Pandlikali people, the area offering an abundance of natural food and water resources.

We were able to see examples of rock engravings, stencils and paintings as we walked along the beautiful river red gum lined gorges and rock pools, that are dominated by the rugged red Byngnano Range. After a bit a lunch we set off to explore the Mutawintji Gorge, walking 6km return.

The recent rains have encouraged the river beds to have become overgrown in some places with weeds which we had to bash through at one time.

But in the end we were rewarded with a beautiful watering hole.

For some reason there were many goat skulls and bones scattered in this area.

We enjoyed a lovely evening in front of the fire.

After a peaceful night we set off on a 8km walk to Homestead Gorge following the creek ending at another lovely rock pool.

We incorporated the the Rockholes Loop walk which offered some spectacular views of the range.

Later after a rest and lunch we walked 6km /2hours on the Western Ridge walk that had us overlooking the vast desert plains.

That night we enjoyed a bbq dinner over the great fire pits they supply. There were also a couple of sheltered bbq areas.

We had a wonderful stay but tomorrow more adventures beckon.
