Australia Outback NSW Darling River Run

We started the day with a walk through the Lunar Landscape and came across a lovely couple, Neil and Tricia, who have been coming here for the last 10 years or so. Mark was thrilled when Neil took him down into his mine to have a look. We chatted for a couple of hours and appreciated their time and hospitality.

We then rolled out town and drove 95km on bitumen to Wilcannia. Back in the day it had been the 3rd largest port on the Darling River. We had a look at some lovely sandstone buildings, reflecting the wealth the town once had.

We filled up with fuel which was a reasonable $1.29 (White Cliffs $1.72!) and bought a few essentials at the IGA. We decided to stay at the Coach and Horse campsite (-31,456269, 143.826599) $12/night in the Paroo-Darling NP about 60km from town along the East Tilpa Road. Once there we called the NP to pay for our site. As the name suggests there was once a hotel on the Darling River for the steamboats to stop. There was also Wilga station that remained in the family until 2002. We are travelling along what is known as the Darling River Run. This section will be from Wilcannia to Bourke.
