Australia Outback NSW Tibooburra

Today we drove 360km out of Mutawintji NP to Tibooburra, NSW most Northwestern town, all on bitumen except for the first 65km on gravel. We stopped at a couple spots along the way to stretch our legs.
Saw a few goats and sheep along the way..
An abandoned sheering shed...good place for breakfast.

Symbolic sculpter

Stretch the legs for 10mins..not time for lunch yet

A little bit of excitement for the day...
Still completing the bitumen road..not much more to go.
Another distraction..this time a tool tree...Mark’s favourite so far.
Driving along the airstrip...they close the gates when expecting a landing

They nick name this flower the Poached Egg.
Poor Eliza is the only evidence of a hotel that was here...it is reputed that she ‘entertained’ those who passed through here but redeemed herself when she saved the publicans children from drowning in the lake ...when it had water in it.
A large ‘station’ along our route...unusual for them to be so close to the main road.
Even saw some cattle ...not sure what they survive on.

In Milparinka we ate a late lunch before strolling around this once vibrant but short lived gold rush town. A few buildings have since been preserved but most have fallen to the harsh arid conditions ever prevalent in this area. In its hay day (1880’s) the mostly male population peaked at 3,000 and 10,000 ounces of gold had been officially found.

This little guy made out of scraps
Another sculpture ..this one depicting Sturts Cairn he had his new build near by to help moral while they were stranded for 6 months.

The court house and police station have been restores

There was a bit of local information at the heritage centre.

We rolled in at Tibooburra around 4pm and selected our site at the only camping available at $24/night unpowered
One of the 3 stencilled entrances.
Our view for tonight.

We were told it was happy hour at the 2 storey pub tonight, so we ventured into town and decided to have our first meal out since lockdown!

Cheers....
