Mizen Head Ireland

Day 101/Ireland 34
Travelled:163km from Cobh to Mizen Head and Crookhaven -back to the Wild Atlantic Way
Stay: Crookhaven - port parking N51.4695 W9.7242
Visited: Mizen Head - €7.50pp

After our second night in Cobh we set off this morning back to West Cork to continue our Wild Atlantic Way journey starting with Mizen Head, Ireland’s most Southwesterly point. Along the way we got caught in the Cork traffic jams and stopped to fill up with LPG and diesel. We didn’t hold much luck in being able to see much as there was fog/low clouds/mist all the way to the coast.  We decided to wait it out and an hour later we were rewarded with some clear sky, so we raced in and bought our tickets. We managed to get some great photos of the incredible coast line and the iconic Mizen bridge (originally built in 1909 but replaced in 2010). There were some great exhibitions in the light keepers cottages. By this time the fog/mist/rain had come back and taken all the coastline view away. We finished back at the visitors centre with a bit more information on the bridge and the area.

I’m at the helm ...help!

We continued on in heavy fog to Crookhaven, a small harbour town. We couldn’t resist a pint in the most southerly pub of Ireland and as it was getting late in the day we thought we may as well stay for the night.
