Dungarvan Ireland

Day 98/Ireland 31
Travelled: 77km from Waterford to Dungarvan
Visited: Stephen North Campers (Carrick on Suir), Mahon Falls (Comeragh Mountains), Dungarvan
Stay:Dungarvan Motorhome parking area N52.0867 W7.6173

After a quick shop at Supavalue in Waterford, we were on the road to a motorhome supply and workshop in Carrick-On-Suir. Mark was able to buy some spare parts for the water pipes  but we weren’t so lucky with the flickmixer cartridge. We then headed for the coast but on the way detoured to Mahon Falls in the Comeragh Mountains. We just managed to find a parking area as it seemed this was a popular walk to do on a Saturday afternoon. We had lunch and then ventured along the well designated path for just over 1km to the bottom of the falls.

On our return leg we were able to admire the view all the way to the coast.

We made our way to Dungarvan and as the three spots in the motorhome only parking bays were filled, we joined the other 2 just closeby. We then walked into town and visited the castle which was built in 1185 by the Normans. Later Military barracks where built inside the walls in the early 1700’s. They were in constant use during the Irish Civil War through to 1987 by the local Garda. It then fell into disrepair until the Heritage Trust restored it and it now houses an informative exhibition on its history.

After walking through town we returned to Bluey and chatted to a few motorhome neighbours before calling it a day.
